Maybe your master's degree isn't in homes, but mine was. In the mid 70's my home experience started as a helper for my father, an employee for a local plumber, and doing some jobs on my own. In the early 80's I trained as a heavy equipment operator then operated a wide variety of machines for various contractors. In the late 80's my own business Small Stuff Maintenance Service started as a service contractor providing a crew for townhouse maintenance for three Property Management companies servicing over 300 rental units, a site management company was integrated into it, as well as doing small handyman repairs for private homeowners. A general contracting crew was added as Small Stuff Renovations shortly after, building additions, kitchens, bathrooms, basements, decks and fences. A bathtub re-glazing and countertop recoloring division was also added. Several years later, The Work Crew, a commercial building maintenance overload service crew was added with a staff who worked nights.
Since 2000, just as Ian Cole, I have inspected over fourteen thousand homes in various Provinces for replacement cost value, sometimes taking the time to explain to owners how their house "works" when they realized how much I knew about their house after being there for only a half hour.
This service was created after many people told me I should make a business of teaching people about their house because I taught them so much.
